Nobody got hurt thankfully. I then called Ashley Furniture the next morning & complained. I did have a warranty & insurance on the couch. I had to spend months complaining & 3 mos later they send someone to look at it. It takes him another month to send a replacement sofa. I got the new sofa in so i felt it was safe & i had my parents sleeping on the bed and it closed & injured my 64 year old dad. (He has back problems anyhow). I felt it could have been the hard wood floors making it close up. So i got carpet installed under the sofa area. Well sure enough my best-friend was here sleeping over. It closed again & injured my friends knee. I called & told them all this & asked if there was a recall on this sofa they said no. The model # is 8890397. I can’t find the sofa on the website anymore. Where can i go to find out.

I told the guy on the phone i have a friend who works as an anchor for the news. I could so easily have her do a story. I just want to resolve this issue without being nasty. I will try to call someone higher up i suppose.

I checked the BBB they have 6 complaints on there. I probably wont be getting any calls back. I will have to keep this drama going for awhile.
Answer:
Don’t be afraid to insist on speaking to the higher ups in the company. Do your research and find out who the owner and/or CEO is, and find out how to contact them directly. They don’t want a lawsuit or big drama either. The “little guy” who answers the phone when you call customer service is not going to be very helpful.
Be prepared to show sales receipts for the sofa, and copies of medical bills from the injuries. It doesn’t require a lawsuit to get reimbursed for injuries. But it might take a while to convince them to that you really want this taken care of.
My husband had a weird thing happen to his car, which was clearly due to a flaw in the design of the car. (He pulled in to a parking space, when he backed out his front bumper snagged on something and fell right off the car.) He wasn’t injured, but it was an $800 repair. He had to really push for it, but they finally cooperated because $800 is much cheaper for them than a lawyer and bad publicity.
Don’t give up, just because the first person denied your claim
